Randolf and Thomas are advancing their theme of Shared Leadership with the debut of their simulation, “The Ultimate Top Tower Challenge,” at the 2024 Autumn Convention of the Munich Education Forum. The game challenged participants both physically and mentally.
Two teams, Zentral AG with traditional leadership and Dezentral SE with shared leadership, compete to build the tallest spaghetti- towers. The task involves establishing a leadership system, making strategic investments, and managing unexpected disruptions. After 45 minutes, one team emerges victorious—but why?
Reflections on Shared Leadership
The simulation prompts deep reflection on leadership, exploring questions such as:
- What does it mean to lead?
- What are the advantages of hierarchical vs. shared leadership?
- How does it feel to carry responsibility alone or share it with others?
- What fosters a flow of collaboration, and what disrupts it?
Introduction to Research and Success Factors
The simulation also lais the groundwork for discussing:
- Different models of shared leadership
- Company experiences with shared leadership
- What research says about shared leadership
- How to successfully implement it
- What promotes or hinders its success
